Learn about the different types of treatment modalities we offer here at The SAM Centre.

TYPES OF THERAPIES

At The SAM Centre, we provide a range of individual or group therapies like acceptance and commitment therapy to help you manage daily stressors and develop new coping skills and techniques to improve your life or health.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT)

ACT is an acceptance-oriented approach to psychotherapy that has been used to help treat workplace stress, social anxiety disorder, depression and more. Through this therapy, practitioners will help you acknowledge your thoughts and feelings rather than ignore them.

APPLIED BEHAVIOUR ANALYSIS (HOME/SCHOOLS)

Applied behaviour analysis, also known as behavioural engineering, is a scientific approach used to understand our changing behaviours. This therapy focuses on improving behaviours by using various strategies and techniques.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL (CBT)

CBT is a psycho-social intervention that aims to help people identify and change disturbing thought patterns and reduce symptoms of various mental health conditions.

COGNITIVE PROCESSING THERAPY (CPT)

Cognitive processing therapy is a type of CBT used by practitioners to help people recover from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health conditions.

COGNITIVE SCHEMA THERAPY (CST)

CST uses cognitive and experiential imagery techniques to identify and change negative behavioural patterns developed from long-term schemas. It’s a treatment used by practitioners to treat trauma and childhood issues.

DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (DBT)

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a modified type of CBT that focuses on educating people on coping with stress, managing emotions, and improving relationships. This was initially used to treat borderline personality disorder but has been adapted to treat other conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder.

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM THERAPY (EFT)

EFT is an alternative treatment used to treat physical pain, stress and anxiety. It uses the fingertips tapping technique to stimulate the acupressure points on our body

INTERPERSONAL THERAPY (IPT)

Interpersonal therapy or interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) focuses on treating depression and interpersonal issues. Practitioners help identify challenges in your personal relationships, how it contributes to your symptoms and how to deal with them.

MINDFULNESS-BASED COGNITIVE THERAPY (MBCT)

MBCT combines cognitive behavioural techniques and mindfulness strategies to help individuals manage and pay attention to their thoughts and emotions. It was designed to treat depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and other conditions.

MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING (MI)

Motivational interviewing is a counselling method used to resolve ambivalence and insecurities. Practitioners use this to empower individuals to change negative behaviours and strengthen their motivation.

NARRATIVE THERAPY

Narrative therapy is a form of therapy that aims to separate an individual from their problems. Through this therapy, practitioners help patients put together their narratives and see life challenges objectively.

POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY (PP)

Positive psychology is a therapeutic approach that helps people improve their overall wellbeing by focusing on positive events and emotions. It aims to help individuals identify what makes them happy and shift perspectives to maximise their full potential.

RELAXATION & MEDITATION TRAINING

Relaxation and meditation therapy involves various techniques that will help calm your mind and allow you to live in the present moment. These include breathing exercises, meditation, and progressive muscle relaxation exercises designed to reduce stress and anxiety.

SOLUTIONS FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY (SFBT)

SFBT is a goal-focused therapy that helps people focus on solutions rather than problems. This is used to help you develop a vision of the future and discuss the things you can do to accomplish your goals.

TRANSPERSONAL THERAPY

Transpersonal psychology, also known as spiritual psychology, is a healing intervention centred on the spiritual aspects of our life. This therapy is used to treat anxiety, depression and other conditions by exploring an individual’s spiritual self to create a meaningful life.
