Relaxation Group Program @ The SAM Centre

5 Week Course x 1 Hour Per Session

Applied Relaxation Groups will be running at The SAM.

Learn new ways to reduce your anxiety and stress through learning about and practicing applied relaxation techniques at The SAM Centre.

The groups will include 6-8 people and sessions will be held for an hour weekly for 5 weeks.
The aim of the course is to enjoy a guided weekly relaxation technique in the company of like - minded people; to deepen your practice and develop a plan to establish a daily relaxation routine.

Applied relaxation is a process that decreases the effects of stress on your mind and body. By practicing relaxation techniques, you can reduce stress symptoms and:

  • Slow your heart rate
  • Lower your blood pressure
  • Slow your breathing rate
  • Increase blood flow to major muscles
  • Reduce muscle tension and chronic pain
  • Improve your concentration
  • Improve your psychological wellbeing
  • Improve emotional regulation
  • Boost your confidence to handle problems
  • Improve wellbeing and health

Course Facilitator

The course will be run by Gwenda Cannard, Life Coach and Meditation/Relaxation teacher . Gwenda has taught relaxation to a wide range of health & welfare practitioners for over 20 years and has co-facilitated a Mindfulness Cognitive Therapy Group since 2007. Gwenda has been a regular practitioner of yoga for over 30 years and has been practising daily meditation for more than 10 years.

Learn to Meditate - Mindfulness Meditation - 5 week Course

To help you with your New Year’s Resolutions.. Working towards a calmer you.. We introduce a new course at the SAM Centre - ’Learn to Meditate’..

Meditation is becoming increasingly popular and well known, and has a number of health benefits by reducing the physical and mental effects of stress. Meditation also helps us develop insight, self acceptance, inner strength and a more peaceful approach to life.

The Mindfulness Meditation Course provides a gentle but powerful way to:

  • Calm the mind
  • Relax the body
  • Improve focus and concentration
  • Gain self awareness and clarity of mind
  • Enjoy life more by living in the present moment

In this class for those with little or no experience of meditation, you will learn:

  • How to meditate and become more mindful in everyday life
  • How to use meditation to manage stress, pain or worry
  • How to establish a regular practice
  • How to deal with difficulties in meditation practice

A number of different meditation techniques are taught and time is allowed for discussion about the development of your meditation practice and any problems you may encounter.


Teacher

The course is run by Gwenda Cannard, Meditation & Relaxation Teacher and Life Coach. Gwenda brings a warm, relaxed and light hearted approach to the class. Gwenda has taught meditation and relaxation widely, and has co-facilitated Mindfulness Meditation Cognitive Therapy groups since 2007. Gwenda has been a practitioner of yoga for over 30 years and has had a regular meditation practice for more than 11 years.

Cost

The 5 week course costs $145. The full fee must be paid up front when enrolling into the course.
